Attendance

Help Your Child Succeed in School

School success goes hand in hand with good attendance! Every day is important. Many MPUSD students miss 10 percent of the school year - about 18 days a year or just two days every month. Chronic absenteeism in kindergarten, can predict lower test scores, poor attendance, and retention in later grades.

Three-Part Video Series: “Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow”

Focus on Marina schools

In the fall of 2024, MPUSD created a three-part video series shining a spotlight on the critical role school attendance plays in shaping students’ futures, particularly in Marina, where chronic absenteeism rates are higher than neighboring communities. Through the voices of students, parents, educators, and community leaders, the series explores the challenges, impacts, and solutions surrounding school attendance.

The videos highlight why starting early with strong attendance habits is essential, the long-term consequences of missing school, and how absences affect not only individual students but also classrooms and communities. Viewers will learn about the resources and support available to families, as well as the collective effort required from schools, families, and the broader Marina community to turn the tide on absenteeism.

With the unifying message “Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow,” the series encourages Marina to rally together, ensuring every student has the opportunity to build a strong educational foundation and achieve their dreams. View all videos here.
