Monterey Peninsula Unified School District

Each June, the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District proudly recognizes employees for their years of dedicated service with a certificate of recognition and commemorative service pin, honoring their commitment to the district, their school or department, and most importantly, to the students and families of the Monterey Peninsula.

Author Annie Dillard once wrote, “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” For most people, work represents a significant part of that journey. Research shows the average person will spend nearly one-third of their life, or approximately 90,000 hours, at work over a lifetime.

In today’s workforce, longevity is increasingly rare. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median employee tenure with a current employer is just over four years. That makes the dedication of our MPUSD team even more meaningful.

This year, 166 MPUSD employees are being recognized for reaching milestone years of service, including 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 35, 40, and even 45 years of service to the district.

Among this year’s honorees, four employees are being recognized for the district’s highest service milestones. Josephine Beeson of Adult Education is celebrating an incredible 45 years of service. Dietrick Brown of Maintenance & Operations and Robert Cummings of Facilities are each being honored for 40 years of service, and William Ferguson of Monterey High School is being recognized for 35 years of dedication to students and staff.

These remarkable milestones reflect decades of service, leadership, and commitment to public education. Their dedication represents the very best of MPUSD and serves as an example of the lasting impact one person can have across generations of students and families.

These service awards celebrate the lasting impact of teachers, classified professionals, administrators, and support staff who have chosen to invest their time, talent, and heart into serving our schools and communities. Their work helps shape the lives of students across Marina, Monterey, Seaside, Del Rey Oaks, and Sand City every single day.

From classrooms to cafeterias, playgrounds to offices, buses to boardrooms, every role matters. These milestones represent more than years on a calendar, they reflect relationships built, lives changed, and a deep commitment to public education.
